Service Description

It’s not an exaggeration to claim that drawing serves as the cornerstone of all the visual arts, especially the skill of sketching from direct observation. In this immersive drawing course led by Ilse Nass, participants will develop a solid mastery of technical drawing techniques through the exploration of a still life drawing, done in charcoal. Still life offers an excellent opportunity to build a solid groundwork in drawing: students acquire techniques to create precise proportions and tonal values through direct observation of real objects, without the extra difficulties posed by a live model. The lessons are split into brief segments that cover fundamental drawing techniques and ideas, along with the development of your primary still life drawing project. Ilse will concentrate on several topics, such as the significance of learning academic techniques (we work according to the sight size method), structuring your composition, evaluating tonal values, proper application of traditional drawing materials, and additional subjects. In short: * Achieve technical proficiency in drawing by learning an academic method * Translate the colors you see into accurate tonal values in charcoal, to create drawings that feel 3D * Learn to draw fully from life, achieving accurate proportions & form-modelling * Gain confidence working in charcoal, a medium that transitions well into painting with oils This understanding is applicable universally and can be utilized across various visual art styles and types. For whom? This course is suitable for participants who already have knowledge of the classical drawing tradition. For example, you may have completed the two-year drawing program or taken courses of a similar nature. The tuition fee for this workshop includes: - 30 hours of training - A delicious organic lunch will be served daily - Coffee, tea, water during all hours - Studio equipment: easels, drawing boards, stools We request that you provide your own drawing and painting materials. Once you complete the registration process, an email with a list of materials will follow, at least one month before the course starts.
